2026-27 Commander
Sons of the American Legion Detachment of Indiana
A proud possessor of a priceless heritage, David A. Miller is a 16-year member at Historic Fort Benjamin Harrison Squadron 510. His eligibility for the Sons of The American Legion comes from his father, Allen Miller, a Vietnam War veteran and member of Post 200, Huber Heights, Ohio and his mother, Cheryl Miller, a Vietnam Era Women’s Army Corp veteran and member of Post 510, Indianapolis, Indiana.
David has served the Squadron and District, filling various offices. He currently serves Squadron 510 as its Adjutant and District 11 as its Finance Officer. David served as the 2023-2024 Detachment Membership Chairman. He has served the Detachment’s various Committees and Commissions, and he served the National organization as the Aide to the National Commander in 2022-2023 and is currently serving as a committeeman on the National Children & Youth Committee.
David has been married to Bernice, his high school sweetheart, for 22 great years. He is very appreciative of the support she gives him in his endeavors. Bernice is an American Legion Auxiliary member of Unit 152 in Knightstown, Indiana.
David is very proud of his brother, Senior Master Sergeant Zachary Miller, who is active-duty Air Force, currently stationed in Germany. Zach is a dual member at Post 510 with his son, Alex, being a Sons of The American Legion member of Squadron 510. David’s family is a true American Legion Family.
David is an Eagle Scout of Troop 9, Wapakoneta, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama.
David has worked for the Defense Contract Management Agency, an agency of the Department of War, for 25 years. He is proud to have served four six-month deployments to Iraq and one 14-month deployment to Afghanistan as a civil servant.

David A. Miller was elected Detachment Commander at the annual Detachment Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 11, 2026, by the delegates representing the over 37,000 members of the Sons of The American Legion.

Commander Miller's project is Folds of Honor. Donations will be accepted at all District and Detachment meetings or may be mailed directly to the Sons of The American Legion, Detachment of Indiana "earmarked for Folds of Honor". All donations to the Commander's Project will stay within Indiana helping Indiana's own Veteran families.
